The G-Drive Racing team, comprising Roman Rusinov, Jean-Eric Vergne and Job Van Ujtert, started the race in sixth position. The Russian team struggled during the first stage, as torrential rain soaked the track, and at one point they weren’t even in the top ten.
But then G-Drive Racing made an impressive comeback. The pilots driving the Aurus 01 prototype started moving up the field one position at a time, and by the final stage of the race they had even managed to get into first place. However, a puncture forced them to make a pit stop just five minutes before the finish, leaving the Russian team in second place at the line. The team of Rusinov, Vergne and Ujtert finished the four-hour marathon less than ten seconds behind the leader, and that despite lagging a whole lap behind early in the race.
This is the third time G-Drive Racing has reached the podium in this season of ELMS, after winning the previous two stages, and Silverstone marks the sixth time in a row that the Russian team’s drivers have taken a trophy.
With just two stages to go in the European Le-Mans Series, G-Drive Racing lead the championship with nine points between them and second place.
